Arqus could hear his heart drumming inside his chest. He clutched his right hand at the
left side of his chest in a pathetic attempt to atleast slow it down. He could feel blood
rushing in every vein within his body. The cold air isn't helping either.
He fluttered open his eyes. His back still pressed hard against the jagged wall of the alley.
He could imagine dying here. Either butchered by the crowd entering the school or getting
blown into bits by that huge bird floating above the streets.
"What the heck's happening here??" He asked himself, nervous. "What is this place?"
He paused for a moment and thought..."Am I dead? Is this hell?"
With his other hand he touched his face. It's Solid.
"I can't be dead." He whispered.
He pinched his chest, as hard as he could. It hurt. Alot.
He gave himself a mental kick in the nuts for doing that. He almost
cried out in pain. That could've tipped the floating beings outside where he is.
"Okay. I'm not asleep either." He thought, rubbing the throbbing part of his chest.
Arqus stood there, in the dark alley, wondering how he got into this. He blamed himself
for coming back to the city. Now, he's stuck there, like a frightened little mice from
the...em...Huge...Bird guy!
Suddenly, he heard a sound. It was soft and it sounded more like sobs. It was coming from
within the alley. The same one where he's hiding. Someone's in there too, hiding from those
beings.
He started walking, slowly, towards where the sound was coming from.
"Hello?" He called out softly. "I-I-Is anyone there?"
The moon illuminated a hunched figure in white from within the alley. Arqus could tell that
it was a woman. She had her back turned from him. She was shaking as her sobs continued.
"Are you okay?" Arqus asked, his tone still hushed. "Are you hurt?"
The gentleman in him wanted to help the lady. He took several steps to approach the
white figure in the dark. The lady sounded scared.
He stood atleast 4 feet away from the sobbing lady now. His voice doesn't seem to calm her down
and she went on with her quiet sobs.
Arqus wanted to step closer, but the figure stopped crying and started moving. She turned
around. He stopped on his tracks.
The figure had long black hair. Her head was bent down, as if she's looking on the ground.
Her dark hair covered her face.
"Are you Okay?" Arqus inquired, concerned.
The lady said nothing.
She was a few inches shorter than Arqus' height. He couldn't quite
determine her built because of the...
"Hospital robe..." He froze, remembering the crowd outside of the alley wore the same clothes.
Alarms started ringing inside his head, especially when the moon's faint light caught what the
lady was holding. A sharp looking kitchen knife.
Arqus backed away, as slow as he can. While the figure walked closer to him. With one step back,
the lady would take a step forward to close the gap between them.
Finally the figure raised her head, her jet black hair exposing her almost disfigured face.
Her dark lips pulled back in a menacing sneer that sent chills on Arqus' back. The lady in
white wiped the drool that was coming out of her mouth with the back of her hand.
He stumbled backwards to the ground, as the crazy woman lunged forward, knife up in the air.
Eyes closed, Arqus raised his right arm to shield himself from the attack.
A loud "CLINK!" was heard as the knife made contact with Arqus' arm.
With his arm still up, protective, he opened his eyes. The woman stood there infront of him.
Her face looked baffled as she stared at the object in her hand. It was a handle. A knife's
handle to be exact. The blade was gone.
Arqus checked his arm, worried that the blade probably got stuck there. As he brought down to examine his
arm, his face registered awe and then shock.
He could see right through his arm. The tips of his fingers sparkled when it caught the light
from the moon. It looked like...glass. It was like his arm was made entirely of
sparkling glass.
The crazed woman pounced on him. Arqus lay flat on the ground, as she held the woman by the neck.
Her mouth was open and her jagged, stained teeth were inches away from his face.
Just like his right arm, Arqus noticed that the same thing happened to his left arm. Both of his
arms looked like solid glass. The lady on top of him howled like mad. Then a loud snap followed
that.
He lay there montionless, still holding the lifeless body of the woman by the neck. He killed her.
He snapped her neck.
Tears threatened to fall out of his eyes, as he pushed the dead body off him. He stood up,
freaked out that he killed someone. He raised both hands, enough where he could see them by the
light.
His hands shook. His hands...made of solid looking glass....shook.
He caught sight of his reflection...on his own hands.
His neck, his face and even the strands of his hair...also turned to what looked like...glass.
