"No. Not really." He replied, a little sad that even the others didnt find a way out. "Who is he?"

"Johnny and I met him in the sewers.," Veronica began, realizing how she never imagined mouthing those words. "The Black Goat controls this city. I'm sure he's instrumental in leading us here."
Veronica took another sip of whiskey.
How could the Black Goat have escaped her thoughts?

"Oh, so he's like the mayor or something?" Arqus blurted out, taking another shot with his beer.
He looked over his shoulder and noticed the bothered expression on Veronica's face at the mention of The Black Goat.
"What's wrong?"

"I wouldn't call him a mayor.. Because I wouldn't know.", Veronica replied. "But he's certainly up there."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Veronica replied, as she turned her head. "I just can't believe he slipped my mind for a moment back there."

"If he really is "up there" then we REALLY have to find this fellow." Arqus stated, a look of determination evident on his face. "There's something wrong about this place, this city. We need to get out of here."
He gestured his hand towards the other people inside the bar.
"Look at them. It's like they don't even know we're here. They're like zombies."

"This city does something to people.", Veronica began. "I believe there's a reason why we are all here. Maybe its unfinished business of sorts. I see those people and I can't help myself from jumping to the conclusion that they gave up and gave in. They had nothing to fight for and over time, they turned into these mindless shells of what they once were."

"I don't wanna be one of them." He said in a sad tone before removing his eyes from the people inside the bar.
He turned to face Veronica again.
"I don't know what's out there, or if there's even anyone waiting for me. But I have to get out of this place. I need to find a way out. There's gotta be something better out there."

Arqus looked away from Veronica.
"How can she not want to get out of this hell-hole?"
Reaching for his beer, he noticed that it was already empty. He called for the bartender and asked for another bottle.
"You're right." He said after a few minutes of silence. "This city, does something to people. It turns them into freaks."

"You have someone, a boyfriend." He complained. "I have no one here."
He placed his hands on top of each other on the counter, and pressed his forehead on it to rest.
"What are the others like? I mean Johnny...is he an angel too? A clown with a hatchet too maybe?"

"That maybe the case, yes." Veronica replied, giggling. "But there's nothing to do here. I can't shop. There's nothing on tv. I haven't found a single bookstore. But I can reflect and meditate. I must tell, it is quite liberating. Very different from the maddening life I knew I once lived."
"What are the others like? I mean Johnny...is he an angel too? A clown with a hatchet too maybe?"
Veronica took another sip before answering, "Johnny's all, man. But he's hiding something... That I know. Maybe he is an angel.", Veronica said jokingly. "But seriously, the crowd here is quite an eclectic mix. There are angels, psychopaths, people or creatures I don't know about, and if what I saw is what I saw, I think there are vampires here as well. How about you, Arqus? You look normal, somewhat. Is there anything hidden beneath?"

Veronica's question, made Arqus sit up straight.
"I don't know." He said, avoiding her glorious brown eyes.
He thought that if Veronica finds out about his abilities she might get scared of him.
"If...I tell you that I'm not..." He asked. "Would you be scared?"

Arqus gave her a weak smile.
"It's hard to explain." He muttered. "But trust me Veronica, I'm one of the good guys."
