Syl grinned widely.
"Wow, thanks! "
It walked ahead of them, leading them deeper and deeper into the park. There were many little choice locations in the maze that was Animus's largest the park, and Syl was leading them straight to one of them - a magnificent fountain that it had found a few months back. It was in a more isolated location of the park.
"I love making people smile!" said Syl, "it's a lot more fun than seeing them with grouchy faces all day. But I'm open to trying out some other professions... Like... I dunno... I'll see if I can get some ideas at the library..."
It turned back towards Rosa.
"By the way, what's it like to be a street performer? Is it fun?"

"By the way, what's it like to be a street performer? Is it fun?"
"When I used to perform, it was thrilling." Rosa said, smiling at the thought of her memories, taken from happier times, before Animus. When it was just her, Maz and Viscum looking out for each other. "Watching the amazed looks on the faces of passers by, seeing the excitement on their face when they see something they've never seen before. The confused looks as they try to figure out how you've done it."
Rosa held out her hands and closed her eyes. When she opened them a small flame had developed in the palms of her hands. With a smile the flames grew bigger and began to dance in her hands before forming into a flaming bird, a phoenix. Rosa closed her eyes again and within seconds the flames dissipated, and a grin formed across her face.

Chrystabelle's eyes widened, focusing on the fire. Her vision seemed to narrow in on the flames, making them seem larger and more foreboding. Soon she could no longer see the park at all, only a huge, destructive blaze.
She could also hear screams. 'Chrysta? What are you doing?!
'Why's it so ho-oh! Oh no!'
'Chrystabelle, stop it! Stop!'
'It's burning fast, we need to get out! Chrystabelle!'
'Where's Anna?!'
'Chrystabelle!'
Chrystabelle gasped sharply, the voices fading as the park came back into view. She took a small, shaky step backwards. "Oh my," she mumbled quietly.

Syl looked up at Rosa's display with a look of awe and glee on its face. It applauded enthusiastically when the bird vanished. Syl knew that this was due to some innate ability to manipulate fire, due to the fact that it did not observe any other tricks at work, but was still happy to see her do something amusing.
"Wow! Miss Rosa! That was amazing! Do it ag-"
Syl cut itself off when it noticed Chrys's reaction. It ran towards her, looking concerned.
"Miss Chrystabelle! Are you alright? Is there anything that I can do to help? Anything?"

Chrystabelle blinked sharply. Her eyes were stinging and her heart was beating extremely fast. "I think I'm alright, Syl," she said uncertainly, which was the truth. Whatever that little episode had been, it was already fading from her mind, leaving her with nothing but a vague, sick feeling in her stomach.
She took a deep breath and attempted a smile. "Don't worry about me, I can figure it out later."

Rosa looked at Chrystabelle with concern, worried that her fire display had in some way caused Chrystabelle's... whatever that was. Maz knew the signs of an episode, possibly a memory rising from the subconcious. He decided against saying anything, knowing that it was up to Chrystabelle to work it out.
"Don't worry about me, I can figure it out later."
"Are you sure?" Rosa asked, a concerned tone obvious in her voice. "We could always get you checked out by a doctor, or even just have a sit down and rest."

Chrystabelle shook her head. She didn't believe in avoiding problems, but she wasn't one for seeking out pain either. She figured that whatever it was, it would come back to her when it was ready, and she'd be more prepared for it.
"It seems I may be crazy after all, but there's no need for it to interfere with our walk. I'm okay, Rosa." With that, she began to walk again, though slower than before.

Syl cocked its head. It had a confused expression on its face as it walked next to Chrys.
"Miss Chrystabelle! Are you sure that there's nothing I can do to help... ?"
It waited a few moments, then smiled and brightened up.
"Well, if you want to continue the walk, that's fine, but if you need any help, I'm here for you, along with Rosa and Maz. So don't worry, alright? Just relax and enjoy the park... I think I know of something really pretty that I can show you. It's not that far away..."
With that, Syl, grinning, walked ahead and led them down a path deeper into the park. That fountain and flower field were only one of the park's many attractions, and it thought Chrystabelle had the right mindset to appreciate it.

Chrystabelle smiled, feeling better. "That sounds lovely, Syl, and I really appreciate it." She followed along quietly, trying to ease her mind into a tranquil state. She really didn't want any unexpected time jumping right now, as her nerves were already shaken enough without ending up in another time and place. A small, incoherent idea was forming in the back of her mind, too vague to register as she strolled through the grass. She simply wanted to see what Syl was leading them to.

Rosa walked beside Chrystabelle and Syl, her mind working away. She wasn't sure why Animus would call someone like Chrystabelle to the city, she didn't seem like the type that the city would usually bring to it. Of course times had changed, and so had the people it was using to do it's work.
"So where are you from?" Maz suddenly said to Chrystabelle, intrigued by the aura surrounding her. Chrystabelle's aura wasn't like most beings, it didn't seem to have a strict time period to it, almost like she didn't belong in any single moment in time, but rather many at once.

Chrystabelle paused. "Well, my mother would say that I came directly from the gates of Heaven to her lap. And my father would say I came straight from Hell," she explained, frowning a bit. "Which I think means they didn't actually know. I just appeared one day when I was little, really. Maybe that means I'm from nowhere..."
She considered that option. She didn't think it was possible to be from nowhere, but she didn't have any clues to where she'd originated from. Her adoptive parents never talked about it. She wondered if they realized she was no longer in the city, but doubted it. She hadn't spoken to them in years.
Suddenly, she realized her mistake. She shook her head and smiled at Maz. "I don't think that was the answer you were looking for. I'm from Delune. It's right along the coast of the Mediterranean sea."

Syl grinned and tugged at her sleeve eagerly. It pretended not to have listened to Chrystabelle. It did indeed notice the strangeness of her aura, but right now, it didn't care. All it wanted to witness was who this girl really was in inside as a person. That's how Syl saw people, really. As individuals. It saw people for who they were, not for who they pretended to be.
"Oooh!" it said eagerly, "that sounds like a great place, miss Chrystabelle!"
It then paused for a moment, looking upwards, its fist under its chin. There was something it forgot to say... therewas something strange about her homeland... ah right! Its uniqueness! Syl couldn't resist inquiring about it, as it pulled on her sleeve once again.
"Um... Miss Chrystabelle? What's it like living at the the Mediterranean sea? Doesn't it get hot living near the center of the earth with lots of molten stuff around you? What's the scenery like? How do you get your food down there?"

Chrystabelle grew slightly excited by the bombardment of questions. Syl's energy was contagious, like the wild drumming at a festival. She rocked from side to side slightly, feeling a pleasant thrum throughout her body. "It's very warm yes, which I was always thankful for. It'd be more difficult to perform if it was cold all the time." She smiled warmly, trying to recall as much as possible. "The air always smelled like sea water, and everywhere you went in the city you could hear the sounds of the church bells. The sea was the prettiest shade of blue green I've ever seen. Which is silly to say, since I've never been anywhere else until now."
"I suppose our food came from the markets," she remarked thoughtfully. "Evianna - she was the leader of my group, in a sense - would always buy it with some of our earnings. It was mostly fish and sweets, really, and probably not the healthiest diet. I've always had the strongest sugar cravings, and have to keep sweets in my pockets all the time." Apprehensively, she patted down her dress, finding no familiar lumps or bulges. She didn't even have any pockets. "Or not..." She sighed. She supposed she'd have to go to a market and find some of the free sugar Syl had mentioned.
"What about you, have you always lived here? Is anyone ever born here, or does everyone come from somewhere else?"

Rosa and Maz listened as Chrystabelle spoke about her homeland and upbringing. Rosa continued to smile and take in the information, always interested in learning more about the people she was with. Maz kept the same look of intrigue on his face but for him it was forced, although any onlooker would be assured that he was listening intently. Maz already knew much of what she was saying, at least about the climate and location of the Mediterranean coastline.
"Is anyone ever born here, or does everyone come from somewhere else?"
The question initially caught Rosa off guard. She hadn't really had many people ask that question before, nobody ever seemed to interested and she herself had only learnt of the answer after several years in Animus. It was Maz who answered though, unfazed by the question.
"Children are born here, yes. But many of the people you will meet, at least the ones who are not mindless, will have been brought here from many other locations."

Syl tugged at Chrystabelle's sleeve. While it did listen to what Maz had said, it attention was still on Chrystabelle...
"Miss Chrystabelle, I'm confused," it said, "how can you have a sea in middle of a place deep within the Earth's crust? Isn't there supposed to be molten rock down there and all that heat? How can you fit a sea in there? Is it really a big huge hotspring that people bathe in all day? Is it fun?"
It cocked its head in confusion.
"I'm confused, but after all this walking, can we get more sugar? Now that you mention it, I'm thirsty for something sweet to drink."
It hugged her arm tightly, looking at her with innocently pleading expression on its face, so cute that it made an adorable puppy look pain in comparison.
"Please?" it said, "with a suber uber gigantic mountain of liquified chocolate cake on top? ... Please?"
