Kankure hugged Syl tightly, crying. He couldn’t understand anything anymore, it was all an unknown blur of random things and events. Fragments of his old life, but nothing more. It confused him as of why he had just seen those images. It was like being trapped in a nightmare. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” he repeated, shaking in Syl’s arms as he sobbed. He was just a burden, he didn’t know anything except a few facts or instincts when it came to cooking. Everything else was like looking through a smudged and dirty window with nothing to see past but the empty deserts. Kankure didn’t know what to do, he didn’t have a place to live, he didn’t know if he had any family, and he didn’t know if he was supposed to feel guilty, or happy. It was all jumbled in his head and hard to sort out.
After a while, he stopped crying and lay silently in Syl’s arms, sniffling a bit as. His shaking had toned down as well as he started to calm himself over, but was still unwilling to let Syl go. His arms wrapped around Syl with his hand latched around it’s back.

Syl continued to hold him, comfort him. It was odd that it would be this affectionate with a stranger, but it had no regrets. It knew that he was confused and lost in this strange new world, just as it was when it first arrived here. The difference though, was that Syl had little time to relax before Veronica spirited it away on one of her adventures. At least Kure had some quiet time with it... At least he could have some time to work out what was going on with his memories.
"You have nothing to be sorry for," said Syl, "what happened... happened. We just have to deal with it as is, the good as well as the bad. I know you're confused, but please don't worry. I'm here to help."
Syl held him for a long while, as Kure held it in return. He had stopped crying, but it wasn't sure if his sadness was gone or not. Whatever the case, it decided to cheer him up. Syl held him close, and softly began to hum a sweet tune. This eventually transformed into a sweet melody, with a pure light-hearted and hopeful sound. It woved around the entire room, sounding as if not one voice was singing, but two. It was steady and light, but very beautiful, sounding vaguely like a flute or the echo of a pure voice, filled with hope, happiness and love.
Singing was one of the few things that Syl really excelled at, as its emotions were transferred to the audience with uncanny ease and precision. Kure wouldn't be able to to understand the lyrics, but he would easily be able to gasp the emotion Syl was trying to convey.
Coincidentally, though, the story in the lyrics was that of two birds separated by humans and natural disaster, but doing everything in their power to be reunited once more. Even if it involved achieving the impossible for their kind - flying across the ocean.

Kankure enjoyed the song, but it made him want to cry again. It brought such similarities in his past, and when it sang to Kankure, the circumstances were usually always horrible. He looked up at Syl, his eyes still glistening from crying. “Truthfully.. I want you to tell me, if I ever did something terrible, is it really best to remember?” he asked. He couldn’t get over that vision he just had. Those corpses hated him deeply, and he could still feel their scorn. “I want to remember, but I’m scared too.”

Syl sighed and looked at him so gently, with a smile so warm, that it felt that it was sure to cheer up Kure.
"If you want to come to terms with what you did in the past, good or bad," said Syl, smiling, "I think you should try to remember, as long as you don't let the bad things overwhelme you with a sense of guilt and suffering. I know that I've done some horrible things, but I'm not letting it get to me. If you want to move on with your life, with all your memories intact, don't be so desperate looking for forgiveness in others. First, look for it in yourself."
Syl drew him closer, gently holding his hand. Its smile persisted, and its desire to help him was great. It knew that it had done horrible things in the past, which Kiel never mentioned or made any references to. It knew that it had done bad things, but no specifics. Yet, it had a strange sense of accepting towards them, for reasons that Syl couldn't really explain. But it believed that it had forgiven itself, and that now that it was in a place where it wouldn't be persected by angry villagers with pitchforks... well... maybe... Syl thought... it could get over the past and look towards the future.
"Whether you want to remember or not is something you must decide," it said gently. "I know you're scared to face your fear, but I know that we have a past together, and I won't let that bond fade away. Now matter how horrifying your past is, now matter how bad the nightmares are, I'm here for you. I'll stay by your side, and I'll help you deal with them as best I can."

"Thank you." Kankure said and snuggled into Syl. He yawned, tired from wandering around the city endlessly, his body yearned for sleep as his mind was fully awake with thoughts. "Since it seems.. I havn't been here before. Where should I sleep?" He asked, rubbing his eyes as he yawned again. Obviously sleepy. He didn't think it would be a good idea to sleep in the park since people seemed to walk around besides mindless, and it was a good possibility one would find him sleeping on the bench or something. Which he would like to avoid being rudely awakened. And there was another possibility that it was against the law to sleep in the park.

Syl smiled at Kure, hugging him back. It chuckled as Kure yawned. Understandable since it had dragged him across the city, and what felt like eternity with him. It already felt so close; the aura of familiarity that it felt from him was overpowering... So much that it wasn't willing to leave him. My memories haven't failed me before, thought Syl, I feel like I know him... or have known him in the past... That promise... I don't remember much of the past, but if my instincts are right, then he's the one that made that promise to me...
It gingerly lifted him up, looking at him with a gentle expression on its face.
"It's alright," it said happily, as it walked out of the tea shore with him in its arms, "if you're feeling tired, I'll take you to a place where you'll be able to sleep."

It felt a little weird being carried by someone shorter than he, but he quickly got used to it. “As long as its not the sewers or against the law… anything is fine.” Kankure mumbled, snuggling into Syl as it carried him. He didn’t last long before dozing off. His body was worn, tired, and deprived of rest. As if he had been wandering for years at a time with no rest in sight. He had this strange fatigue all day, but perhaps he would be able to get enough rest to feel better by tomorrow. He snuggled into Syl’s chest and mumbled something, but it was too soft to hear.

Syl carried Kure to a nearby apartment building, one that looked to be in decent shape. It was tall, unremarkable and completely plain - a wall of red bricks and uniform windows against the street, with the park being situated just around the corner. Honestly, Syl wanted to take Kure to one of the beautiful houses in the suburbs that were close to nature, but it wasn't that strong. Syl had difficulty carrying Kure as is, and it had to burn extra energy in order to support him. Nonetheless, Syl was willing to do it if it was for his sake. It wouldn't be very nice if it left him to sleep on the streets.
It tried to open the door by the doorknob, but found that it was locked. Damn... Looks like Syl had to use the good old fashioned way. It concentrated, summoning forth its energy, and making it materialize in front of it. It came forth as a flexible light-bluish silvery substance. It was almost like goop, but easily controllable and didn't wriggle as much, easily bent to Syl's whims.
The magic carefully molded itself to resemble a short, silver key, exactly like the humans it observed the mindless use when they tried to enter their homes. Syl inserted it into the keyhole. Click. Nothing. It blinked, realizing what was wrong. It modified the key and tried again. Click. Again? It took several tries for Syl to get it right, but when it did, it let out a cheerful chuckle and proceeded inside, closing the door behind it while behind careful not to drop Kure.
It picked out a random apartment in the building, one that was obviously still in good condition but unoccupied, and climbed a few stairs to reach it. There, apartment #5. Syl took out its key and attempted to unlock the door as well. Failure. It shrugged. Oh, well. It modified the key, and tried again. After a few more tries, it succeeded in opening the door.
The apartment before it looked like it hadn't been touched in ages. It was clean and well-maintained, but it looked so neat that anyone would be tempted to live there. Clean sofas, a clear glass coffee table, shelves that were bare save for some cute little dolls... it was a very presentable apartment. Naturally, houses meant little to Syl; it preferred sleeping on the roofs. But it had a feeling that Kure prefferred beds. It was simply that the apartment's good condition would allow Kure a greater degree of comfort as he slept. Syl closed the door behind it and naviguated itself to the only bedroom in the apartment. Like the rest of the apartment, it was neat and clean. There was little clutter anywhere, which made it easy for Syl to carry Kure to the bed, take off his shoes (along with its own) and pull him under the covers. Smiling, it then snuggled under the covers with him, smiling gently.
"Good night Kure."

Kankure opened his eyes, the light was filtering through the crack of the shades and streaming into the bedroom. It was already morning. He groaned slightly, his body felt heavy and he didn’t want to get up, he was tired still. He stared at the ceiling for a bit, then turned over on his side and closed his eyes, snuggling into something warm. It was comfortable and soothing to be asleep and warm, even as late as it was. He felt the movement of something other than himself and quickly opened his eyes, seeing Syl next to him. “Ahh!” Kankure quickly jumped away, falling out of the bed and hitting the floor with a loud thud. For some reason seeing someone right there when he woke up scared him.
Kankure rubbed his head and laid there for a moment. It was in the middle of the afternoon already, he had slept like a log the entire time and didn’t even move. He yawned and sat up, he didn’t really notice he had crashed to the floor in his sudden fret. “Mmm.. I wanna go back to sleep.” He leaned against the bed and closed his eyes, not caring where he was. He was too tired to care.

Syl stirred in its rest, groaning as it regained consciousness. It looked up as the sunlight filtered in through the curtains, covering its eyes. Morning already? It then a thud as something hit the floor and a familiar voice... Kure? Syl opened its eyes and crawled towards the edge of the bed. There he was, leaning against the edge of the bed. Syl couldn't believe that it had rested this long and couldn't fathom why Kure had jumped out like that.
Oh well.
Smiling, Syl pulled him up onto the bed and under the covers again, smiling. It didn't want him to be cold... it remembered that parents often told their children that if they got cold they might catch a cold, so Syl couldn't help but be concerned about that. It snuggled against him again, but remained conscious. It was no longer tired, but it wasn't willing to leave his side. It felt strangely nice cuddling with him, and it wanted to be there when he first regained consciousness.
"I'll be here when you wake up Kure, no matter how long it takes," said Syl. "I don't want to abandon you, so... um..."
It sighed and closed its eyes, wondering on what to do with him.

Kankure was too tired to much give a reply as Syl pulled him back into bed. He was strangely exhausted, unable to do much. He gently snuggled into Syl, placing his head on its chest and holding its hand. He wanted to sleep for at least another hour or two so he could regain his strength and not be so fatigued. Was there some reason why he was so tired? He opened his eyes and looked at Syl, unable to return to sleep even though he wanted too. “I do want to remember.” He whispered quietly, gently stroking Syl’s long black silky hair.

Syl smiled affectionately at Kure.
“I know,” it said, “and don’t worry. I’ll do everything I can to ensure that you’ll remember. I know that we’ve got a history together, that we were close once… I have faith that you’ll remember.”
It hugged him back, gently touching his face with its free hand, and slightly tightening its grip with the hand that Kure now held. It hummed a sweet tune to him, happy that they could just relax now. Syl wasn’t going to leave without him, and even if it wasn’t tired and up and ready for adventure, it would stay by his side.
“I know you will,” it said, looking at him in the eyes, “don’t lose hope, Kure. Don’t lose faith in yourself… just I also want to know what has happened in the past, but I can’t figure out the details. But I’m not letting that get to me. I’m just looking forward to our next adventure, the time we'll be spending together.”

Perhaps Syl was right…Kankure smiled gently. It was a good idea, look to the future and let the past be. He wouldn’t be able to force his memories to come back on a whim, so it would be best if he set his mind off it. He snuggled into Syl and drifted of into his still slumber, his fatigue of his journey to this place getting the better of him. He wanted to stay like this for a long while, to be wrapped in such warmth of the person he cared so deeply for.
: Hours Later :
Kankure was gently coaxed awake by the gentle beating of Syl’s heart, his eyes slowly opened, his head on Syl’s chest as he had his arms wrapped around it. He had moved closer during his sleep seeking to be caressed. He blushed gently and looked up at Syl’s face, uttering true words that stayed with him over the years, “Amin irentue mela lle.” Kankure spoke softly in his own tongue, even though he didn’t understand what he said, he understood the emotion of what he was meaning to say, ‘I love you’. He had said these words before, back on Middle Earth, to Syl many times over when they were on adventures.

Syl awoke slowly, its eyes fluttering open slowly. It felt something warm next to it... Kure? Syl smiled and hugged him gently, affectionately running his fingers through his hair with one hand and carressing him with the other. Kure... it had gotten rather fond of him rather quickly. Perhaps it should be worried about getting attached to people too quickly, but strangely enough, all Kure did to it was bring along a sense of peace and contentment.
It smiled as it pulled Kure closer, feeling nothing but that familiar happiness that came whenever they were so close. Only a day, and Syl already cared for him so much... they must have known eacher in the past, for sure, for real! That was the only reason that it woulc think of to explain its feelings towards it. It didn't hear clearly Kure's words, and even if it did, it wouldn't have been able to understand them due to amnesia. But his body language and that expression on his face, that blush... it made Syl feel content that it wasn't alone in its feelings.
"Good morning, Kure," it said gently, humming a soft, cheerful tune in his ear, "how was your rest?"

He smiled slightly, “I feel better.” Kankure said in reply to it’s question. In truth, he was still a bit tired, but it was nothing he couldn’t shake off with a cup of warm tea. After a long rest, he was ready to get up and explore a bit with Syl. His curiosity peaked by this strange city. Kankure sat up and yawned, stretching off the sleep in his body. “Wanna get some breakfast?” He asked with a kind smile. Such an innocent drawn back smile, as if impervious by the world and events around. “I can make something sugary for you if you want.”
