Introduction
Welcome to Animus City. A RPG for writers that is sure to both test your abilities and strengthen them. First of all I will give you some history about myself.
My name is Andrew. I have been an efedder(wrestling rpg) for about 4 years now…maybe a little more. I have successfully ran my own efed and unsuccessfully ran one as well. I have been an admin on a number of others and helped strengthen rpers all over the spectrum. I did all this under the name Reverend Shadow or Revvie for short. Now I am Trist to all of you.
I am also a writer, heart and soul. I have both dazzled and appalled many with my writing. I am a bit unorthodox and that is why, I think, I grew out of efedding and wanted something different. Welcome to Animus City…where unorthodox is common place.
Animus City started as a short story idea that I had put out onto paper. The thing was, even with every thing I had, it lacked something. In my opinion it lacked a whole picture due to the nature of the city itself, it was alive in my mind and I wanted it to leave and breathe as I saw it…and the only way I could see that happening was to put together and rp site for such a thing.
The first Animus city was a failure and due mostly on my part. It did not have journals, play by post and was invite only. And was basically a host of elite rpers that I knew could handle the content and subject matter that would be involved…so in essence I was taking it and myself was to seriously.
So after a few months of further thought and surfing other rping sites I found my niche. I found what could tie efedding and play by post together and give a thick storyline. And what you see before you is what I came up with Animus city is the first place I have seen or heard of to interlock these two forms of rping along with giving options for in character personal thoughts in journals. Also, with the point system in place, it will give rpers a chance to buy knowledge and items that will help unlock their creativity and destiny in Animus City. Also with my incentive of you having to know what is going on in Animus City in order to know what needs to be in your rps and what does and doesn’t make sense, it gets everyone involved.
Now im sure dilemmas will come up and things wont work always as I hoped. But as long as were all trying to better ourselves and each other as writers and taking part of a new era of rping that everyone can take pride in, then that’s more then I could ever hope for.
Thank you for becoming Citizen of Animus,
Andrew(Trist)
Plot Roleplaying
Personal Roleplays done by deadlines and contributing to a summary results as to what transpired is a thing taken from my efed years. Basically it can be short or long according to preference and rules set for it that week. It is also a guided weekly thing so that everyone can be following paths according to where the underlying storyline is going. Also you may come up with your own storylines and pm these to me or post them in the area designated…whether it be character based or you have idea for Animus. You need to make sure you tell me so that I may give you the direction you need in the weekly plots so that you may be building your story line and making your way towards the climax. Even though I and my fellow staff will have the final say, if you don’t take the initiative in your characters personal storyline, then you will not have as much fun as someone who is gaining a lot of ground and points for theirs. So in essence PARTICIPATE!…hehe
Also examples of Mandatory Roleplays can be found in the sections designated for such.
Commenting on Bi Weekly Roleplaying
Commenting on Mandatory Roleplays is simple, all your doing is giving your person out of character opinion on what has been written. Whether you like or dislike it, please be both tasteful and helpful in your comments. A little constructive criticism only makes us better as writers. And this will play a huge role in the point system being a success, so please get comfortable with this idea of commenting on others roleplays.
Climax Events
Along with Bi-Weekly Plot we also have Climax Events. This is also derived from efedding, as in the way that every month or so there would be a building of storyline until it would hit a breaking point. A pay per view event that would put an end to some storylines and open up others or simply twist one into yet another period of building. You see this sort of things in shows you watch on tv. Season Finales would be the equivalent to what a Climax Event would be. You are writing the ending to one season, so it has to be huge and amazing and what viewers to find out what happens next while also tying some lose ends up. I hope that gives you a general idea of how important these truly are to the city. Climax events will be every other month and sometimes a little more or less spread out depending on our need or lack there of for one. It really depends on the development of the characters and the cities story and that will dictate their necessity.
Play by Post Roleplaying
By Nushie(Play by Post Moderator)
Most normal RP threads are open to the public. If they’re private, they’ll say so, and if you want to join, make sure to ask the author first! J
To start off, first post your bio. The author of the thread should have a sample bio format done up for you, but if not, you just need to state the usual, obvious facts about you character such as their name, age, gender, appearance, weapons [if any], history, etc. Not hard stuff!
Once your bio has been approved by the author of the thread, you can start RP’ing. This is done in some sort of order. Now, the author would usually give some sort of outline of where he wants the story to head, so you guys don’t stray off in different directions and end up scattered, thus forcing the RP to stick. So, make sure to read the briefing!
RPing is usually done by 2 or more people. Once you’ve made your post, you can’t post again. Double posting isn’t allowed, so it’ll give other members of the RP time to post, based on yours. So it’s like continuing the story, one post at a time.
E.g. Member1: ‘’Sally sat down under the tree and began reading. She closed her novel as she heard slight rustling behind her. ‘Who’s there?’ she asked’’. [Note: Posts in RPs should be longer than this. We try to stay away from one-liners too muchJ]
Member2: ‘’John came out from behind a tree, and looked at Sally. ‘Hi, I’m John; it’s nice to meet you! What’s your name?’ he asked kindly, offering his hand for her to shake, kneeling down in front of her.’’
One of the most important rules, probably the most important if they were ranked, is, NO GODMODDING. Godmodding is when you make other people’s characters do things. An example of that is that if, in the aforementioned example, Member1 had continued to say that John came out from behind the tree and sat next to Sally etc, when John was Member2’s character, Member1’s post would be deleted.
One last thing that all members should try to remember: Keep the language clean, and appropriate for members of all ages! J
Once you follow these rules, you should have a wonderful time RPing! Welcome to the City of Animus!
Animus City Journals
This is pretty easy to explain. Journals our a place for your characters thoughts. Whether your character physically has said journal and writes in it or whether its more in his or her head, this is a place to give more a personal perspective on the day to day life in Animus for your character. If you used to its full potential, this could be the greatest assets to a characters mental development in Animus.
Point System Rules & Explanation
The point system is something of my own design. This will give the roleplayers something to shoot for each week. Points are earned by others comments on their roleplays. I can give out points when and however I see fit and have the final decision in how the points fall in the categories each week so as to watch for favoritism and blatant misuse of the system. My hope is that in the future of Animus, all can be trusted to give true opinions and everyone’s comments are the basis for everyone’s points. For now this will not be mandatory save for Citizenmike and myself. But I encourage everyone to start trying to use this system of points and opinions to comment soon b/c I hope to go to your opinions as well as ours to give out points. Also for trying, there will be points given out. So whether or not you really know how or why you are doing it right now but you are trying to teach yourself what to watch for and trying to comment, well that will earn you points so please GET INVOLVED!
The system itself thought will work like this…
Point System: Points will be done by all players in some right. First part will be by personal judgment done by four categories of five star systems. Then the collection will be tallied according to corresponding votes. I know this sounds a little difficult to understand but by example I will make it much clearer for you all.
Also, the four categories will be as follows. STORY, FLOW, CHARACTER DEVEL, and GRAMMER/SPELLING.
STORY: Basically this is how well put together the plotline for the piece of the story was developed and put together. Sometimes the story can be subtle or be everything in a role play, this will decide how well you did what you were attempting to do story wise according to others who read it.
FLOW: This is pretty simple concept. A role play could have a great story, a great character and flow terribly at times either due to being to slow, to fast, or simply hindered by context of some sort. This could be a whole host of things but the general idea is how easy and smooth of a read it is both keeping attention and enjoyment.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Simple, this tells us how well your character evolved or seemed realistic to him in a role play. If you came off tacky you will probably do poorly then if you come of feeling like a real character, no matter how it’s written.
GRAMMER/SPELLING: Yea, self explanatory.
BONUS POINTS: Will be given at Story Arch Events. Also bonus points will be given if you receive a total of 20 stars at anytime for a role play, role play of the week, and other occasions depending on situations and things going on at the time.
Purpose of Points: You will be allowed to “buy” certain things with your points. I will put up a list later to help. Points could give you plot control one week or any number of other things that I can come up with that seem sensible. So work hard and be smart about usage, it could well double what you used depending on how you use them.
Example of Judging*
(Role-play)
First person/ Second person/ Third Person/ Final Tally
1--2--3--4
5/5-4/5-4/5=4/5
3/5-3/5-3/5=3/5
4/5-3/5-4/5=4/5
2/5-3/5-1/5=2/5
---------------------------------------------------------
Total is: 4+3+4+2=13 points
So the person would be rewarded 13 points for this role play. Highest Scored Role-Play of the week will get 4 bonus points. 20 point score will get you 2 extra points as well. Climax Event Points will be awarded differently and are the soul responsibility of the staff to give out. Comments and such should still be done by players as to attain points for you comments using the system but be noted that we may use a different system for Climax points each event.
(in event of a tie, the closet to mid-set score will be used)
The Big Four of Animus City
Rule #1. There are no true rules when role-playing. The only thing you must keep a track on is what is going on around you in Animus City and what kind of action one character makes could effect another. Say one robs a bank, you got to withdraw money from the Animus Cities bank...well how does that make sense if it was recently just robbed...and unless otherwise noted in an rp as a distant past event. The course of events take place in the order of how rps come in so you must read others rps to get a feel as to how to work it. Not only that you will have to keep up on the bi weekly recaps to make sure you know what else might be going on. Other then that, the only thing holding you back is your imagination.
Rule #2. Reality is perception and vice versa. If it makes sense to your character and doesn't seem ignorant compared to others stuff, go for it. Dreams, Creatures...think Lovecraft's writing of alternate universes with random creatures...think unreal, think odd and out of place and how to make it work for you...again you are the god of your own little world. Again bouncing of each other can be a good idea and still keeping with the theme the city is heading in is a great idea because it keeps everyone rping together instead of just writing random b/s. Keep in mind, one thing in common is all of you were drawn to Animus City, so a purpose is there and interacting is key.
Rule #3. Grammar, Spelling. This is writing, I will never ask for perfection but try to make it look good and keep it within good length. I mean if you want you can write 2-10 rps a week even. But one rp a week is necessity and a deadline will be set so try to do your best to make something worth reading and readable. Thats all I'm saying.
Rule #4. INTERACTION!...This is a rule in eventuality...whether you want me to write interaction that two or more of you have decided on in the recap or do it in roleplays...I want to see some here and there...your in the same city...how can you not eventually run into each other.
Rule #0. This is important...please make sense even in nonsense. Also have fun, write, enjoy writing. Pitch in ideas, help others, help Animus City and help me make this place something worth roleplaying in. I want this place to be great and we don't need a lot of people to have fun and be an awesome place to let loose are creativity no matter what writing style or ideas we move towards.
A Little More About Animus….but not everything.
Everything in Animus is what you make of it and I mean that literally. Animus follows by little to no rules, roleplays can be as eccentric or as domicile as your mind can come up with. You can travel forward and back in time, you can become memories or you animals or Whatever! The greatest thing about Animus is it is a living breathing creature itself(explained more later). It is what you make of it, the only thing…you cant leave…at least its a lot harder that you might think. Walking out takes you back in.
There are other people in Animus. Kindred wanderers like yourself, all hoping to figure out Animus and get out of it. Some though are not so much as people as shells of men and women that came before you and eventually gave into Animus. They are bar tenders, convenience store clerks, and any other meaningless job and task you can think of. They eventually gave up and gave in and are now a part of Animus. That is what awaits every wander who does not find their way…will your find your way?
Besides that, Animus is as little or as much as you make of it. Dimensions, Time Travel, Death, Life, and everything in between. Animus also has more to it that will develop over time as I give you all a little more as time goes on and Animus has a lot to gain from what you all give it and make of it.
Ps: Anything I didn’t cover? Something you want/need to know? That’s what the question thread is for and I will respond ASAP so that you may carry on in Animus without hindrance.
