History
Largely unknown, Animus’s history is shrouded in mystery. Currently the plot involves figuring it out. The events in the church imply of a past where the city was lively, full of people of various backgrounds (even, strangely enough, a preacher of Odin (see Chapter 5: Street survivors – The Church)) and all in all a fairly happy city. It was in this city where a Priestess by the name of Veronica lived, with her daughter, Sara. Sara was a young girl with prophetic visions. She drew images of it on the walls in the tunnels below the church, and eventually, some to those images would come true (ex: the Sanatorium massacre). Eventually, that little girl would go missing, provoking a search for her from the residents. The current thread is located in the Biweekly Roleplays Section; for more information read the RP or the summaries.
As for the future, it is implied that Animus would become an abandoned, desolate city, with a red sky, streets dangerous and in disrepair and filled with demons. It is a place where the Black Goat and many of the residents as well (except Trace), are dead. The thread is located in the Biweekly Roleplays Section; for more information read the RP or the summaries.
The current history of Animus is best explained in the recaps and Bi-weekly plot results. Currently, though, the Black Goat, a being that apparently holds sway over the city, has made almost everyone mindless except for a spare few (see the demographics section). This has resulted in the loss of the government, economy, culture, police and many services, although it seems that the city still continues to operate, but barely. Residents have been seen stealing or using stuff from shops without paying for it, as well as killing the mindless with no repercussions. Shops are also still open, and thus is where residents may get their food. The majority of the mindless still walk and do their jobs, although their intelligence is very limited at best.
Much of the current events revolve around finding out what’s going on, and how to get out. The plot is constantly evolving, so it is highly recommended to read the recaps and biweekly posts to be updated on the current events.
Geography
Districts: Unknown, although it is entirely possible that Animus districts resemble that of a modern city.
There is currently only one known way out of the city – the crossroads – opposite roads that lead straight into the city. Beyond that, there are the wastelands and beyond the wastelands is a never-ending sea of water.
Climate
Animus inhabitants have been here too short a time to really have a feel for Animus’s climate and weather, although it is implied to be fairly pleasant; it doesn’t seem to rain often. There is also a good amount of wind.
Demographics
The detailed demographics of the city are unknown, such as the details concerning the average age, height, weight, as well of the ethnicities and former religions of the mindless in the past and in the present. The number of active citizens has been drastically reduced, now down to less than 50 residents.
Still, here are some basic statistics on some of the residents of Animus. Keep in mind that the number of residents equals the number of characters under the members’ control, not the number of members. Separate characters that are close to other characters – those that are not just voices in their heads (such as Bremmen) are included.
New members will be initially considered as active; however if they disappear/not post/not communicate or something along those lines for a certain length of time, they will be listed as inactive. Characters must have an awakening written for them, or to have been introduced to Animus (AS with Asarek and Fleur) before they can be added here.

Ecology
Not much is known about Animus’s ecology, although it is known that Animus is modern city. Hence, city animals still live there, such as crows, pigeons, sparrows, starlings, mice, raccoons… etc. The vegetation is most likely what is expected with a modern city - with lawn grass in the suburban parts, trees, flowers etcetera. As much of the city is mindless, the plants are usually on their own to survive. Lawns can be expected to be rough, and most house plants dying due to lack of maintainance.
Economy
Currently none. Animus is implied to have had one in the past, but the name of the currency used or its value compared to other real-life currencies are unknown. Considering Animus’s isolation from other cities, it is (or was) considered to be self-sufficient, producing its own food and merchandise without importation or exportation. Water is or was most likely obtained from the sea that surrounds Animus (it has to come from somewhere) although considering the difficulty involved in leaving the city, how they did it was unknown. Residents in the present tend to take what they need from stores without regard where the merchandise came from and usually without paying for it.
Services
When Animus's inhabitants were not mindless, the full range of services were offered, as would be expected of an active small city.
Nowadays most inhabitants are mindless, and thus are unable to provide most services. Food and merchandise are still produced, most buildings are at least minimally maintained and electricity is still produced (although whether it gets to the building depends on how well-maintain it is). However there don't appear to be any new developments in businesses or advancements in technology due to almost everyone being... well... mindless.
Most services seem to be unavailable currently for this reason. As such, there are no active lawyers, psychologists, medical personnel, accountants, receptionists, dentists, bureaucrats, journalists, publishers, CEOs, customer service people, ... etc. While it is true that one can visit their offices, the mindless won't be much help as they won't notice the character in question. This means that there are no legal, monetary, psychological, or bureaucratic services offered. There are no new newspapers, no new television shows or magazine issues, no new books, no radio and no new initiatives by the 'government' (because there is no government). Cell phones don't work due to a lack of a signal, which is due to the cell phone companies not working properly due to their employees being mindless.
However, old newspapers, magazines, books and television recordings can still be found and used. Electricity may be available if the building is reasonably maintained or if it is connected to a working generator.
Educational services may still be available, as there is more than one school in Animus, but it is run by mindless. Hence why the quality of the education is doubtful at best, along the fact that the limited intelligence of the children in Animus may not make them viable people for non-mindless children to make friends with. It may perhaps be why it might be a better choice for potential parents to homeschool the children.
Psychological services may be available if another resident has knowledge and skill in it. Healing services may be obtained from a resident with healing powers, for example, like Lain or Anya. Health services may still be available depending on what clinic or hospital you go to. Some may be abandoned, others still staffed with mindless. Mindless doctors and nurses may still be capable of providing some medical services, although not as well as a non-mindless doctor.
It is also possible that there are still buses moving around Animus, stopping at their stops and transporting mindless as usual, but none of these have been seen. It is still possible that they still exist; maybe it's just that no one has noticed them or seen them yet.
Technology
As stated above, the technology in Animus has no new advancements due to must inhabitants being mindless. Animus however is still fairly modern, having things such as computers, televisions, cars, buses... etc. They may not be operational though due to neglect. Internet is probably gone due to Animus no longer being connected to Earth.
Transportation
Due to the Chapter 5: Street survivors – The Church thread, it was discovered that there were actually cars in Animus. As the current technology of Animus is still modern, there are cars still around, although more as scenery than actual means of transportation. As there are cars, there could have been (or currently be) buses or some other form of public transit.
In most cases, though, most residents in the present times usually get around by walking or flying. Oddly enough, for having an autoshop, the city has no known gas-stations. Also, it is very likely that there are bikes, motorcycles and other vehicles available, as Animus is a fairly modern city.
Sports
One would think that Animus would have sports, but as of now, no sports have been identified. As of now, there have been no sports fields discovered in Animus, although they may still exist.
Culture
Animus’s current ‘culture’ if it could be called that is that of the current non-mindless residents. Naturally, as many of the residents are unsavoury and/or unique people, this leads to them having ever-changing and dynamic relationships. Of the past culture, little is known about it, aside from the fact that the majority of the past population were religious and went to church. The biggest religion practiced and preached was Gnostic Catholicism, and the people's native language was latin, although English was spoken as well.
Attractions
Currently unknown, although the church and room #4 hold some special significance in Animus. The Church in the past could have been a veritable tourist attraction (if tourism existed or could exist) in Animus.
