He saw Syl and smiled pleasantly at him.
"Hey Arqus, how are you?"
Arqus turned to Veronica and answered her,
"I'm okay."
He glanced to one side and saw a girl with dark hair.
"Who's the new girl?" He asked the group.

"What kind of girl do you think I am?"
"Well you obviously dont care what the others think of you. And you dont seem to enjoy all the emotional crap either. So what, your the fun loving, live in the moment, damn the consequences type?"

'Just a small sparring match with Arqus over there' V said. 'Twas fun.' He smiled.

Arqus snorted when he heard V. He ran a finger under his nose, head slightly bent down and looked away.
"Yeah," He mumbled. "T'was fun."

Syl cocked it head, obviously confused. V and Arqus... they were both so perplexing. Syl didn't want to be their enemy, and quite franky, it was in the mood for socializing now, so it wanted to be friendly with them so they wouldn't be left out.
Although... their reactions confused it. Why did V smile while Arqus snort and look away? Did an accident happen? Was it unfair? Did Arqus lose the sparring match? Was there a draw? Syl didn't know, and it wanted to do its best to cheer Arqus up.
"Um... that's good. It's nice to have fun, especially in a place like this," said Syl.
Its expression then turned from curious to concerned.
"Um... Arqus... is there anything wrong?"

'Not so much fun as training, actually' V said, concerned.
'From what I hear of this place, its rampant with danger and monsters. Its good to keep your senses and skills honed for any situation. Wouldnt you agree?'

Phoebe giggled, his answer pleased her. "You are very observant. Mmm, how wonderful." She licked at her lips. "I am no good girl. I like to play, and destroy."

"Well, the only thing that stays the same in this City is the chance for chaos. And chaos is just so much fun." As Trace spoke, he glanced over at the others, still in the church. "But sadly not everyone enjoys chaos as much as I do."

'Chaos is delightful. Its so much more fun when no one else enjoys it, they have such amusing reactions. The scent of fear is addicting," Phoebe followed his gaze to the others. "Mmm."

"Um... Arqus... is there anything wrong?"
Arqus was surprised with Syl's question. Was his expression that obvious? He looked at V and then back to Syl, as he brushed a few strands of his long blond hair away from his face.
"Nothing's wrong." He said with a sincere smile. "I-I enjoyed the training."
He wanted to change the subject before Syl could ask more questions and before V could say anything.
"What's with the notebook Syl?

Syl blinked, slightly surprised when Arqus mentioned its notebook. He saw us from the Church?! thought Syl, I made sure to choose a spot where the tree leaves would cover us! Ah well, looks like I'll have to manage.
Syl fished the notebook out of its pockets and showed it to Arqus before holding it close to its heart with both hands.
"This? I woke up with it," said Syl, smiling.

Arqus mouthed an "Oh."
He squinted his eyes, looking at the notebook. He was quite curious.
"Could I have a look at it?" He asked. "It's not your journal or anything, right?

Syl looked at the notebook, then at Arqus. It smiled. I suppose that there's no harm in it. Arqus can't see Kiel's writing. He can only see mine.
"Well, I suppose you can look," said Syl, "I just use it for notes and to practice my art skills."
It stood so that it was right next to Arqus, as it opened the notebook. Syl's writing in its native language was visible on some pages in red pen, appearing as a complex set of waves, curves and symbols that bore no resemblance to English.
While appearing somewhate like scribbling, they were actually just brief, cramped notes it took about human concepts such as music, cooking and its new friends, Lain and Daemon. There was the occasional stick-figure doodle, as well as other objects jlike the sun, trees and flowers, all drawn kid-style.
Syl smiled.
"I doodle when I have a lot of spare time on my hands."

Arqus felt pleased that Syl trusted him. He was certain the notebook means something to Syl. He smiled on occassion whenever he would see child-like drawings on the pages.
"Tear it up." Bremmen commanded. "Let's see if that would make him go berserk."
Arqus furrowed his eyesbrows when he heard Bremmen in his thoughts. He ignored him as he continued flipping through pages.
"You wanted to test his powers, right?" Bremmen continued to tell him. "Tear it up."
Having Bremmen reside inside him made Arqus sensitive to powers. He could tell now, holding the notebook, that it isn't ordinary, as Syl would want to make him think.

Trace watched from a distance at the events in the church. He watched as Arqus held Syl's book in his hand. He could feel some kind of internal struggle within Arqus, but he wasn't sure what it was caused by. Whatever it was, he'd remember it and find some way to use it later.
"Look," Trace said to Phoebe with a grin, directing her to Syl's notebook. "What do you think he'd do if that book of his was destroyed?"
