The days since had greeted Johnny and Veronica with the peace they needed. For once, in midst of this crazy and unpredictable city, they both had a chance to breathe.
They both took their roles and did what they had to do for the city, and all their efforts came into rebuilding the church that once stood tall in the city. Veronica saw some of what Animus had to keep the moment she allowed the Black Goat to take her, and for that, she decided it was best to use what she knew for good.
Turning to Johnny as he made his way out the church, she offered him a smile; she was glad to have him with her, shielding her.
Night fell slowly over the city as Johnny took his time painting the facade of the structure into a smile and glorious white, while inside, Veronica lit the candelabras the lined the path towards the altar, shielding the church with a haunting glow of gold.
Veronica made her way to the front of the church and crossed her arms just as she leaned against the archway, beside her, Johnny stood on the top of a ladder, coating the walls with fresh layers of paint.
"Thank you for this.", Veronica spoke as she gazed up at Johnny.
"Think nothing of it, Roth.", Johnny replied as turned to look down at her. "Look, once I finish this side of the wall, I'll head over inside and remove some of the pews."
"There's no rush, Johnny. It's getting dark as it is."
"How would that stop me?", Johnny shot back.
He got her, with those simple words. She would have felt stupid for not catching it if it wasn't for that smile of his. Veronica smiled and turned back towards the church. Stopping before the door, she turned back to Johnny and asked, "Am I doing the right thing?".
"Roth, is this not what you want to do?".
"Of course this is what I want to do."
"Then there you go."
Veronica turned back and entered the church, as Johnny stopped her with his his words, "Most people in your place would have done the obvious thing, which is the selfish thing, you're not. I mean Roth, you're practically giving yourself to them."
"I'm just worried that what if all this is for nothing? What if no one shows up?".
"Then its their loss, Roth."
"Thank you.", Veronica replied as she wondered off into the church. Well, it was open tonight, for anyone who wanted it.
