*Takes place a few days before chap 10*

"Syl, can you pass me the syringe?" asked Asri.
Syl glared at him, before casually tossing the syringe at him.
"Here."
Asri shrieked in surprise as it barely missed his head.
"Syl! You're lucky that it's disposable," he said as he picked it up from the floor and removed it from the packet that it came in. "These things are supposed to be sterilized."
Syl sighed, as it ignored him, looking out of the window. Kure... where was he now? It was expecting him to show up at any moment now, to spirit it away for the day. Syl spent nearly every day of its life in Animus with him, having gotten close to him in the weeks that they spent wandering the city together. Asri, though, was ignorant of their relationship, unaware of Syl's feelings for him. While it did spare them from having him needlessly meddle in their affairs, Asri had instead taken to sometimes dragging it into the hospital to keep him company. Which Syl disliked. It loved freedom and wasn't fond of being caged.
"What's wrong, Syl?" asked Asri, as he looked at it, just sitting there staring out of the window.
He approached it, putting a hand on its shoulder, looking at him with a concerned expression on his face. He was worried, really... Syl's behaviour was strange... almost as if it didn't want to be here.
"Please, Syl," said Asri, "I'm your guardian... I'll do anything for you."
Syl shook its head.
"I'm not sure about that. As far as I'm concerned, you're my brother. Guardians are servants aren't they? I don't want you to be hte one following orders."
Asri sighed and went back to his work, filling the needle with the desired solution... medication, actually, before injected himself with it and throwing away the needle.
"I'm afraid that's the nature of angels, Syl," said Asri, "we were created to follow orders, to serve others. The notion of independence is nearly foreign to us. To think that the Ilsvaran Church once idolized that becoming an angel equated a happy afterlife."
Syl slipped away from Asri
"I know that we aren't related," said Syl, "but you'll still be my brother. An annoying one, sometimes, but I'll never forget that we're family. So don't fret, okay? If you can keep secrets form me, why can't I do the same for you?"
Because you're child-like and naive? thought Asri, and trust way too easily? And attempt to befriend anything that moves and get involved with people that you shouldn't be involved with?
Asri sighed as he began mixing the solutions again. Syl and him had been in the lab on the fourth floor of the hospital for hours, from the crtack of dawn, as Syl helped him prepare his medications, which would hopefully last for the week. It was hard work, but necessary for Asri's health. If it weren't for his skill in medicine, he's be bed-ridden most of the time.
The lab was impeccably neat and clean, with flasks and solutions everywhere, each corked to prevent them from reacting with the air. Asri kept everything organised with labels and sticky notes that were strewn everywhere, either on the cabinets or on the glassware. Right now, he was in the process of mixing a reddish solution in a glass cup with a sterilized glass stirring rod, looking up at Syl, through the small see of glassware and laboratory equipment.
"If you're going out, Syl," said Asri, "would you mind getting me some more plants from the strage room? You know, the usual one where I preserve everything for future use."
Syl sighed, and nodded before it disappeared into the maze that was Animus's hospital. Despite what may appear at first glance, Syl didn't have any resentment towards Asri... it was just uncomfortable with keeping secrets from. He wanted nothing more than the best for it... Syl felt a little guilty for worrying him so much.
"Okay, Asri. I'll be right back."
