"Two"
It took us a few hours to remember how it happened. Odin, the oldest and most power god in Norse Mythology, did this to us. Well actually he did it to Bremmen, I was just an unfortunate civilian ... a bystander.
"Curse you Odin!" Bremmen yelled to the heavens, he stood at the edge of an apartment building's roof top. "You stupid old ..."
His sentence trailed off, searching for the right word. He probably can't use 'human' since his great uncle isn't one, he's a god for crying out loud and not just any god, but the KING of the gods.
"Fart?" I suggested, sitting, with my legs dangling down at the edge of the same building.
Bremmen looked down at me, he was standing next to where I was sitting, with a scowl on his face. Actually it was my face. Confused? Join the club.
"Maybe if you didn't say anything offensive to your uncle during our 'hibernation' he wouldn't..."
"FART!" Bremmen yelled to the sky. I was surprised and amused that he took my suggestion earlier.
I continued ... "Maybe if you'd apologize he would..."
"You are an old fart! Do you hear me!" The Demon Prince continued, cutting me off again. His long blond was getting blown by the wind and it sparkled like gold in the sun light. Actually, again, my hair sparkled like gold in the sun, not his hair.
I stopped and did not continue, figuring his royal highness would want to spend his time now shouting profanity to Odin. He was silent for a few minutes, at the corner of my eyes I could see him standing there, motionless, with a far away look in his eyes. My eyes.
He's had powers and stuff since he was born and for someone to take that away in a snap and turn you human ... probably sucks really bad. I felt sorry for him, for the first time.
On the lighter side, I am finally free of him living inside me, talking inside my head, possessing my body if he pleases.
Bremmen and I are now two separate individuals. Two beings. Two different entities. Who happens to look exactly alike.
Like twins.
Except his blue eyes looked sinister and fierce. Like he breathes and eats evil. The way his eyelids seemed to be always half closed. Like he's lazy or he thinks you're a moron and he's a higher being ... still.
"My father will come to my aid you'll see and he shall correct..."
"You've been whining about being mortal for the past few hours already." It was my turn to cut him. I pulled the sleeve of my black robe with golden trimmings to check the time on my red sports watch. "And it's 12:30pm. I'm sure your dad's probably having lunch or something that's why he's not here yet, 'correcting' this."
"Stupid human! Gods do not eat lunch!" The Prince bit back angrily, hitting me at the back of my head.
Because of it, I lost balance and fell off the edge of the building. Wind was rushing to my face wildly, I was falling. I was tumbling wildly in the air as I continued to plummet to my death.
Suddenly, shimmering diamond wings appeared on my back. They flapped and I gained altitude. They continued flapping as I rose up, bent on hitting Bremmen's face in for 'pushing' me off the edge.
"You pushed me you son-of-a-bitch! I almost died!"I screamed at him when I was finally face to face with him.
His eyes were wide with shock and his mouth was slightly opened as he looked at me.
"My brains would've been scattered all over the side walk!" I added, furious.
He still had the unexplained look on his face. So I had to ask, "What?" He slowly raised one arm and pointed something behind me. I looked over my shoulder and saw one of my diamond wings, flapping, keeping my altitude.
"Oh my God." I thought to myself, and looked over the other shoulder to check on the other sprakling wing.
They looked like your typical angelic wings, except each feather, everything actually, is made of glistening glass. They were wings made out of hard diamond.
I looked at my feet and I almost had a heart attack when I realized I was hovering up the air. I was flying. Sure this isn't the first time I flew, but back then, Bremmen was in charge. He was doing the flying and he was just using my body. But now, I'm doing it solo.
The next thing I knew, Bremmen jumped off the ledge, I looked at him as he tumbled in the air like a doll and then eventually falling into the alley's garbage bin.
I descended to the ground slowly, and checked on him. I helped the Prince get out of the bin.
"Why did you jump?" I had to ask.
"Apparently I don't have any powers!" He yelled as he climbed out of the bin.
He looked furious. He said I stole his powers and he was demanding I give it back.
"I'll give it to you if I know how! Look at me! I'm a freak!" I told him, mid shout. "I just wanna be normal again! I don't want your stupid powers!"
He punched me in the mouth, probably for calling his powers stupid. Unfortunately I turned diamond as a reflex mechanism, head to toe. He broke his hand.
I shifted back to human form and advised, "Listen, Bremmen, I'll give you your powers if I can. I'll give it to you now. But I dunno how. You dunno how. So what do you say we come up with a plan how we can go back to 'normal.', okay?"
He was still giving me an evil look, while he was cradling his broken hand. He agreed eventually and we went to the hospital to have his hand checked.
