This is getting serious now.
You think I’m oblivious to that fact? I’ve been observing, like I was ordered.
Well we can’t take any risks. If he learns the truth then the whole human race is at risk.
He can’t be that dangerous, not on Earth at least.
You can’t believe that? Not after everything we saw him do, the damage he caused to our kingdom.
I don’t see why I can’t just kill him? There is no way he has that much power.
Zachariah, he did the unthinkable. He touched...
He’s waking up.
My eyes open slowly, and I rise into the sitting position. I take a few seconds to realise where I am, what I’m doing.
It’s been a while since I had a good night’s sleep, even if it is on rooftop. I’m all alone up here, on the rooftops. Just me, the voice in my head, and the silence.
Well, kind of.
I look over my shoulder and am greeted by the familiar sight of a shadowed figure. Whoever, or whatever, this figure is it always looks the same. A shadowy figure with no feature. It never says a word, just stares at me with unseen eyes.
“How about joining me for a chat?” I shout at the figure sarcastically.
You shouldn’t antagonise it, we don’t know how dangerous it is, or what it wants.
The voice in my head interferes with my thoughts as it always does. It wouldn’t hurt if it gained some kind of courtesy.
“If it was going to kill me, it would have already. It just freaks me out knowing he may be watching me sleep.”
You don’t sleep. The voice reminds me. You got drunk and passed out.
I chuckle, and remember the day before. The numerous shots of tequila... that’s pretty much all I remember, other than the fact that I’m meant to meet up with Johnny and the glum chums in a few hours.
I don’t trust them. We should keep our distance.
“As if” I shout with laugh. Well I don’t trust them either, they’re the only source of entertainment around here, other than the aforementioned tequila.
The past few days have been a blur. Arriving here, the sewers, the airport, and the sewers again. And who can forget the Black Goat. Then there’s the rest of them. Johnny and his partner, the woman named Veronica. The only people I have a shred of respect for in this damn city. Even if Johnny is a psychopath who believes he’s a killer for God.
There’s always Tigs, that vampire who took a chunk of my flesh. But I knew what I was doing, the blood served its purpose. I saw into her true nature and I know how to deal with her now.
And then there’s Arqus. But he’s not proved himself to be a threat, at least not to me. And I’m not going to worry about something as trivial as a little boy with a crush on Veronica. Or on anyone else for that matter.
Then there’s the clown. What in the world can I saw about that psychopathic clown? Other than the fact that he enjoys violence and practical jokes a little too much.
Speaking of violence, there’s always Chains to consider in this equation. The smart mans psychopath. He does what he wants and how he wants. He’s only in it for the fun of the fight. You can’t blame a man for that, well, I can’t. We’re similar in too many ways.
Myzrael. The only man who I want to kill more than anyone else. That pompous fool needs to learn his place. He was below me in heaven, and he’s below me down on this disgusting planet. If need be, I will rip those wings straight from his back, the same way that was done to me years prior.
“Join me, and you shall have that chance.”
I jump to my feet at the sound of a deep, manipulative voice. It turn my head to the origin of the voice, and find myself staring at the shadowy figure. He’s closer to me than ever before, now just a few feet away, but he’s still shadowed.
“What are you talking about?” I ask him. “And since when did you gain vocal chords?”
“You’ve always been too sarcastic for your own good, that’s the reason that your down here in the first place.”
I light up both of my hands with fire, and point one hand at the shadowed figure.
“Say whatever you have to say, or I’m going to be eating burnt shadow for breakfast.”
He makes a sound that I think is disappointment, but I pay little notice.
“Join me, help me to kill all those that refuse my guidance, and you shall be rewarded with power beyond you wildest dreams.”
I laugh, uncontrollably, “you sound exactly like another guy I used to know. He was an ass as well.”
“So your refusing my offer?” There’s confusion in his voice, as if he didn’t expect me to refuse, as if he believed I would jump at the chance to follow another self righteous loser.
“Yes, I’m refusing. Why would I want to join you? You offer me power? Well I can get that on my own.”
He takes a few steps backwards, and with a tone of complete and utter disgrace speaks “you’ll regret this Traciel.”
I flinch at the name. I left that behind long ago.
“Who are you?” I say with a growl.
“I believe you know me as the Black Goat” he says, and in an instance has vanished, leaving only the smell of brimstone behind.
Well that cant be good.
‘What do you mean? Things just got a whole lot more interesting.’
And with that, I drop off the side of the building, and disappear into the shadows of the ground beneath, making my way to the rendezvous point.
The day has only just begun, and I’ve got a whole new angle on where things are going now.
