It was sunset when Chains made his slow, careful way onto the roofs. Like a rather reclusive spider, he emerged from the darkness of an adjacent building and proceeded to climb its crumbling framework. Although his movements were still as limber as before, they were much slower. Those who had been around him long enough could tell that although he was still able to haul himself onto the shingles, he did so with effort. And once on top, he clapped a hand to his right side. It was still maintaining this awkward hold that he gently lowered himself into position: back to the derelict chimney, legs stretched out before him and feet crossed at the ankles. Arranged so, he blinked once and turned his pale eyes outwards to where the sun beat an agonized retreat behind the moldering sky line. In an hour, it would be dark. In an hour, it would be the owls that patrolled this city of whispers. They were out there somewhere. Those select few with their sense of self. As he sometimes did, Chains indulged himself in wondering what had become of them. He still had several unfilled promises. Johnny merited attention, arrogant bastard that he was. Veronica too, but only as a means to get to the latter. Briefly, he considered what he would do to one or both of them, but he hadn't the energy needed to maintain such serious thought for long. So instead he thought about Syl and what it was worth. Easy enough answer. Conversation. Intelligence. Intellect. And nothing else. Chains reached gropingly inside his mind for anything deeper- a connection, a sense of empathy- but all was void. He hadn't been built with the capacity for lesser emotions. You would consider that a failure, wouldn't you? Ah, but you don't know how much potential you unlocked in that omission. He smiled thinly, and closed his eyes- enjoying the last warmth of dying day.

Hex was well and truly lost, all the buildings looked like clones of each other. This induced one of his heavy migraines, unfortunately this was most likely one of the worst times to have one, he would have rather that it happened while he was still in the room, but now he was exposed, vulnerable. Staggering off to the side, he leant weakly against one of the replicated walls. 'Okay, Take a deep breath.' He rubbed his temples with his right hand. "Breathe.." He whispered, sometimes talking to himself helped to calm him down. Getting up from the wall, he continued on his way. He was determined to find food and shelter. He was still at a loss as how he was going to accomplish that, seeing as absolutely everything looked the same. 'Maybe i just need to stop worrying about that and just check them out..' Stopping awkwardly in the middle of the street, he turned his head side to side. It was going to get dark soon.

Syl was walking along Animus's streets, humming quietly to itself, wandering aimlessly as usual. It was then when it saw Chains sitting on the roof. Chains... that sadistic, but quasi-innocent-looking man that tortured humans for entertainment. It was a guesome, but strangely fascinating sight for Syl to watch those humans die in the theatre, as they wailed, moaned, stumbling around mindless before finally dying of bloodless. The game of life and death taken to twisted level.
Macabre, but fascinating... just like the man behind them.
It smirked as it saw Chains up on the roofs, before reverting back to its impassive expression.
"Hello, Chains! I haven't seen you for a while... How have you been?"
It looked toward the setting sun, before gracefully leaping up ontot he roofs as well.
"Very nice view you have here. Beauty in nature... truly a wonder.. hmm? Isn't it ironic that the sun that graces the skies and horizons of oh so many worlds will also devour them in several billion years?"

The only part of Chains that moved, were his eyes. And his mouth. It was with a total lack of surprise that he looked down to find Syl, standing on the street looking up at him with its usual amiabilty. Had he done nothing to discourage it? He knew he hadn't succeeded in driving it off (and he hadn't been trying to) but it still spoke as if it was greeting an old friend rather than a potential threat. Personally, he didn't know whether to be insulted or amused. And so he smiled- returning its genuine regards with a grin more sinister than sincere. "Ah, my little conversationalist. Has it been a while? I wasn't aware." And he hadn't been. There were other more...pressing concerns than maintaining contact or assiduously avoiding the other residents of the City. He thought briefly back to their first encounter but had no sense of time with which to measure it. Days? Weeks? He wasn't sure. Something moved behind Syl, unsteadily as if it hadn't yet found its legs. Chains flicked his eyes over to consider it. This high up, he had an unobstructed view of someone he didn't recognize- and he never forgot a face. Someone new, is it? How delightfully interesting this could become. If only he had the energy. Unseen but very much felt, another slow pulse of blood oozed from between the fingers he held to his side.

Hex continued to stumble forward, deciding against checking all the buildings, it would most likely be a huge waste of time. With every step he tightened his grip on the eagle, being very careful not to accidentally pull the trigger because the safety was now off. As he moved forward, he sensed something, possibly people? Hex shook his head, not daring to look. He wasn't in the mood for dealing with people, especially if they were going to harm him. He wasn't sure if, in this present state, he would be able to defend himself. Keeping his head straight, he began a light jog, hopefully he would clear this area soon. 'Just don't panic..' He reminded himself, he felt completely out of his element, he was hoping that feeling would soon subside. Sneaking a peak, he saw two figures, perhaps. Cursing to himself, he sped up. 'Just keep going Hex, walk faster.' He could feel the beginnings of yet another migraine. Maybe he should focus on finding some type of medication, lest this obstructed his abilities further.

Syl's eyes watched Chains carefully with complete and utter impassivity, just like when they first met in the theatre. It knew that his sinister grin was nothing good... it was, after all, sinister, but that
"Ah, my little conversationalist. Has it been a while? I wasn't aware."
"Seems so, although I do admit that I've lost track of time myself," asked Syl, "it would be highly difficult to find anyone one here who keeps their calendars updated, knowing what date it was before everyone became this way... I am under the impression that reading calenders... requires some mental faculty beyond basic mouvement and awareness of one's surroundings."
It sighed as it looked at the streets and then the sunset.
"Ah, but I'm rambling again, aren't I? Looks like we have a newcomer... I haven't seen this one before."

"Fresh meat," Chains agreed laconically. "And rather helpless looking meat at that. Where is the challenge," he inquired of Syl, "when the object of interest is staggering like a drunkard, mm? I suppose, if you're so eager for a repeat of the glorious show I staged in the theater, I could perhaps oblige. Either way: an 'introduction' is in order." He couldn't help himself. It was in his nature, as ingrained in him as a predator's instinct to hunt to live. Chains came smoothly to his feet, discretely wiped his palm on his black breeches, and began to walk jauntily along the eaves. His side still bleed but slowly. In another couple of minutes it would clot, and he could put his whole unfortunate encounter behind him. For the moment. The situation would need correcting, but there was nothing he could about it now, and there was a new face to greet after all. A brand new canvas, if you will. A blank page. When he was within several feet of Hex, and positive that he was seen, Chains stopped. He stood on the rooftops, backlit by the fiery sun, and conjured up a smile to match the first. "And what do we have here?" he asked conversationally. "Lost, are we? Confused? Oh and unsteady too it looks like. Isn't that a crying shame?"

Hex stopped but continued to look straight ahead. "And what do we have here?""Lost, are we? Confused? Oh and unsteady too it looks like. Isn't that a crying shame?" Hex calmed his breathing, withdrew his eagle and held it tightly by his side. 'If he tries anything.. i swear to god..' Hex titled his head to stare at the speaker, he had no interest in communicating with this being. "I'm fine." He replied coldly, what else was there to say without letting on his current situation, He felt much better being alone. Especially if this creature was the only company he could find, He seamed dangerous, well as far as Hex could tell. The one who had greeted Hex was accompanied by another, He couldn't quite make out what the other one was. To be honest he couldn't work out what either of them were, just that now, he felt far from safe, even with his gun at the ready. He started to walk again, this might have been taken as a cowardly act, but hex had better and more important things to do. Like finding a cure for his damn headaches, which the introduction of this new person wasn't helping. "If you'll excuse me.."

Syl gave Chains a wicked but brief smile.
"I'd love to watch if you do. This should be interesting."
It wanted to tell Chains to be careful, but it doubted whether he did to. Chains was a sadistic murderer. And a rather strong one at that. Human auras were not easy for Syl to analyze, but it could manage with a bit of concentration. This was a human, but he wasn't any ordinary human - this one possessed power beyond what they were normally capable of. An experiment? thought Syl, I heard how they love to tinker with everything.. even the biology of their own kindred.
Sighing it followed Chains as he went off to introduce himself. While Chains stopped the human from behind, Syl went on to intercept him from the front, but not to block his way. It leapt down from the roof as he began to walk away, landing on the ground gracefully. It now stood at one side of the road, as it watched him walk down the center of the street, away from Chains.
Its expression remained impassive as it gazed at the human with a bit of curiosity. Normally it would be more friendly, but this wasn't the friendly Syl that Veronica, Daemon and Lain had come to know - this was another side of it...
"You're new here, aren't you?" it asked impassively.

"Excuse you? I think not." As effortlessly as a hunting cat, Chains stepped off the eaves and landed: almost ten feet down without so much as a stumble. Now, Hex was surrounded in both directions with houses to either side of him. Of course, technically, he could dart into one of the no-longer whole ruins, but the man (if man he was) looked like he was having trouble even standing. "Now I'm not overly fond of brusqueness," Chains continued. "It is my personal belief that everyone deserves a little...attention now and then. Besides. There is nothing in this City that deserves your urgent presence, I can assure you of that. So. What do you say to an introduction, my hasty friend? Because I am feeling overly generous today, I do believe I will let you keep that piece of hardware you're cradling," he inclined his head to the Eagle that Hex now grasped, "for the time being. Though I can assure you, point it at me and it will be your loss."

Hex sighed, thats what you get for trying to leave and keep the peace. "You're new here, aren't you?" 'No, i have been here my entire life, but i only just decided i would come out and meet you lovely people.' He thought sarcastically. "Yes." He answered, staring straight past the one who'd asked. Hex kicked the ground underneath him, he was beginning to get agitated. He wasn't fond of being blocked, These two were a hell of a welcoming party, They sure made this place feel like home. Not. "Now I'm not overly fond of brusqueness,""It is my personal belief that everyone deserves a little...attention now and then. Besides. There is nothing in this City that deserves your urgent presence.." 'Except meds..' I can assure you of that. So. What do you say to an introduction, my hasty friend? Because I am feeling overly generous today, I do believe I will let you keep that piece of hardware you're cradling," Hex sighed, tilted his head to gaze at the sky, now was about the time he was wishing he could fly, or regretting leaving the shoe box room. "Hex." He said bluntly, He couldn't exactly say "Hi my name is Hex!" because technically, that would be a lie, And he wasn't exactly very fond of the welcome wagon. "for the time being. Though I can assure you, point it at me and it will be your loss." Hex tapped his fingers on the gun, raising to his head and tapping it on his temple. 'It would be just fantastic if it decided to malfunction right at this moment.' He thought as a smirk slipped onto his lips, that vanished as quickly as it had appeared. He was finding himself suddenly not so scared of these two, but he knew enough not to underestimate them. He would be ready if they tried anything.

Veronica had gone out for a smoke. With everything going on, she needed something to take the edge off. Veronica noticed Chains, Syl, and a stranger in the distance. Something appeared to be happening, and that something wasn't looking good.
"What's going on?", Veronica asked as she approached them. "Syl, are you alright."

Syl gave Veronica a friendly smile as she approached. On one hand, it mentally sighed at the thought of having her interfere in something as delicate as this. It liked her, and quite frankly, it didn't want her to se it in a mood like this - in the mood to see another one of Chains's sadistic games. On the other it was glad that it would not necessarily have to do anything ugly.
"Good evening, miss Veronica. We were just about to introduce ourselves to this newcomer here," it said, "I'm fine. How about you?"

Hex tilted his head in the direction of the woman. 'Another one?' He thought exhausted. He raised his eyebrows as the woman and the other one began to converse. 'Maybe i can use this as a chance to get away..' Side stepping around the two, he made a break for it.

Syl sighed wearily and easily intercepted Hex as he attempted to escape. It stepped in front of him to stop Hexfrom going any further.
"I don't know about you, but leaving before the introductions are done is a bit rude, no?" it said in an even tone, "you haven't even introduced yourself to miss Veronica here and he..."
Syl nodded its head towards Chains.
"... didn't have the chance to introduce himself properly."
