Silent Heaven
The Players: The Priestess Nica Merchant, Trace, Sara
Setting: Animus City, Earth. Before the Black Goat's take over. Roughly around thirty three years prior to this writing
"Mother! Mother! Mother!", was the cry, the beckon call, that would wake any mother. It was late in the evening, barely even day, when Nica Merchant awoke to the sound of her daughter's cry.
Nica panted as she rose from the mattress.
"Mother! Mother! Mother!, Sara cried again.
Nica pushed herself out of bed, slipped on her robe, and rushed into Sara's room.
Standing by the doorway, Nica swore that a part of her broke as she chanced upon the painful sight of her daughter wallowed in tears.
Nica sat gently on her daughter's bed as Sara suddenly curled her arms around her.
Running her fingers gently over Sara's hair, Nica asked, "What's matter?"
Tears interrupted Sara's yearning attempts to speak.
"You can tell me anything, Sara. Please tell me what happened?"
"I had a dream.", Sara spoke gently, in mid-weep.
"And what happened in your dream?"
"I was dreaming of a monster, the devil..."
"I told you, Sara. We don't believe in the devil. Such a creature does not exist. So, why should something that's not real scare you?"
"Because he is real, Mama."
Sara pressed herself against Nica's chest and continued to cry.
"I dreamed about him. Trying to get me and you."
Nica wrapped her arms around Sara and murmured, "Go back to sleep, Sara, and I promise you that the devil won't be there. There is no such thing as the devil and will not come to hurt us."
"Don't tell me something that's not true, because it is."
It pained Nica knowing that there was nothing she could say that would ease her child from her pain and her worries.
Nica rose from the bed and cradled Sara in her arms. Murmuring, she hummed the first verse of "P.S. I Love You", she hoped the sound of Sara's favorite song would calm her down.
"Trace... If you can hear my call, please answer me."
