"Very pretty," Klaire said with a giggle. She turned to the brass doorknob, and entered the basement, climbing down the carpeted stairs into the dark basement. It was finished, carpeting on the floor and colorful walls included. She giggled, running over to a couch and jumping over the back, landing with her head on a pillow and her body on the cushions.

Syl grinned and followed her, jumping onto the cushions as well. It cuddled into the sofa, chuckling, making it self comfortable. If only roofs were this comfy. The downside of houses was they tended to be so claustrophobic. Syl wasn't afraid of small spaces, but it wasn't overly fond of them.
"This house is amazing!" said Syl in glee as it lay down amonst the cushions.
It looked at Klaire, grinning.
"I love this place! This cushions are so comfy! I could rest here all day."

Klaire closed her eyes for a minute, trying to remember the layout of the house.
"How do people not get lost in this place? It's so big!" Klaire said excitedly. "How long do you think it must have taken for the people to build this house? It seems so complex. There are beautiful things everywhere..." Klaire said, falling silent.

Syl shrugged.
"I dunno, really," it said, grinning, "humans are so perplexing to me... I'm still learning about them, their culture and what they build and their inventions, just as you are."
It sat up and looked around.
"You're right, this place really is beautiful. Human ingenuity is a rather amazing thing indeed huh? It must have taken them an awful long time to build this place!"
Kiel appeared nearby, shrugging casually.
"A month to build it, actually. A year or so, give or take several months to fill it in with pretty stuff."
Syl ignored Kiel and flopped back down on the cushions.
"It's very complex. I don't get it myself unfortunately, but it's really amazing! And I also wonder how people don't get lost here. I get lost in Animus all the time..."

"Wait, what do you mean us humans? Are you not human?" Klaire asked, her eyes shooting open in surprise. She bent at the abdomen to sit upright, and look at Syl strangely. "If you aren't human, what are you? Are you changed, like me? Or are you something different?" she asked, confusion in her voice.

Syl cocked its head, looking confused as well. It came as a surprise to it that Klaire didn't figure out that it wasn't human.
"I don't know, really. I might be changed like you; it's a real possibility," it said, "but I'm not sure of anything. I don't know what happened to me in my past. I don't even know what my own species is. Who knows? I might be human... just not the kind of human that humans consider human... or... gah!"
Syl threw its head back and plopped back down on the cushions.
"This is so confusing. Why can't I remember anything?"
It sighed and covered its eyes with its arm, before sitting upwards again and looking at Klaire.
"I'm sorry for my ignorance, miss Klaire," said Syl, "I wish I could tell you what I am, but I don't know. I just recognized this city as a human one because the mindless here are human. So... um... that's what I meant by it... It feels kinda wierd because I could be a modified human myself."

Klaire quickly scooted over to Syl, putting a hand on his shoulder rather abruptly. "I guess there are people who are worse off than me in this plane, eh?" Klaire said, sighing. She smiled. "It'll be okay," she said with a reassuring nod. She then scooted back over to her position, and looked at her hands. What caused her power, how did it work?

Syl nodded and smiled warmly.
"Thanks, miss Klaire. I really appreciate it."
Syl scooted over to Klaire's position, watching her curiously as she looked at her hands.
"Miss Klaire?"
It fidgeted nervously, like a litttle kid, as it looked at Klaire, giving her an awkward smile.
"Um... I... ah... um..."
Syl tried to say something, but nothing came out but stuttering and incomprehensible words. It was a while before it could actually say something audible and comprehensible.
"Is... there... anything wrong, Miss Klaire?"

"Everything is wrong, Syl," she said quietly, changing her hands into a large set of bone claws, which reached about a foot long each. She wiggled them around for a minute, reaching them out and flexing her wrist back as if she was checking her nails. Her hands returned to normal in a quick puff of smoke, and instead her hands appeared as a mace, spikes and all. She sighed, and they both returned to normal.
"Why did they do this to me?" she whispered.

Syl blinked as it saw Klaire's hands change. It's a wonder that she can do that, it thought, especially with so little mass in her hands.
Syl put a hand on Klaire's shoulder, trying to comfort her like in the autoshop.
"I don't know why they did that to you, but what matters now is that you're here, you're free, and there's nothing that those people can do to hurt you any more."
It gave her a small smile.
"I'm here for you, Klaire. If there's anything I can do to help, then just tell me. I... I... don't like seeing people suffer or get hurt... So... um... please cheer up and see things on the bright side. Um.. I... is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"

"I don't think anyone sane likes watching people get hurt," Klaire whispered to Syl. She kicked back her head, letting it rest on the cushion behind them on the couch with a quiet sigh.
"Thank you, Syl. Thank you for everything," she then said, smiling at him. "I'm lucky to have found someone like you to guide me through this strange world."

Syl grinned and sat up next to her, so that its head was also on a cushion.
"You're welcome, Miss Klaire," it said, beaming at her happily. "I'm really, really glad to have met you as well! I mean, you're so nice and, and... I mean... it's really fun to be around you! And I don't want you to be alone here. As I said, I'm here for you, so let's just relax and enjoy ourselves!"
It giggled as it readjusted the cushions that its head was resting on.
"This house is amazing, miss Klaire!" it said, sighing happily. "These cushions are so soft and comfy. I love them... if only I could bring these ourtside. It's really relaxing for me to sit outside with the wind blowing around me. It's so refreshing..."

"What causes wind?" Klaire asked, looking over to Syl with a puzzled look. "Is it a big man breathing?" with that said, she stood up, and began walking around the room, looking at all the furniture, checking the walls, everything you could think of. A large Swiss clock sat on the wall, and as it struck mid-day, a bell rang. Klaire jumped, her hands turning into the sets of claws from earlier.

Syl giggled.
"Winds are caused by air flowing from high fressure from low pressure. High pressure is usually when it's warm, low pressure is when its cold. It's all of part of the weather, which is part of this world. It really depends on what planet you're on, as well as other factors such as magic, residual energies, wind flora populations, rotation of the planet, other weather phenomena... etc. I'm not sure exactly how Animus's weather works, but winds are a part of it."
It gave her a nervous grin.
"Um... yeah... I hope you understand what I mean by that."
It watched as the Swiss clock struck midday, and when Klaire jumped up, her hands turning into claws. Syl immediately got up and approached her.
"It's alright, miss Klaire," said Syl with a soothing voice, smiling gently, "that thing there is called a clock. It's used to tell what time it is during the day and night. Trust me, it's harmless, so... um... please calm down, miss Klaire."

Klaire giggled at her childishness, changing her hands back into their original state. She looked at the clock, and ran her hands against the sides of the clock. "It's pretty," she said, observing the golden engraves on the oak wood clock. She watched the brass pendulum swing back and forth, giggling.
"Have you been to any other planets?" she asked.
