Syl led Klaire along the streets to the housing part of Animus - the suburbs. The houses there were nice and generally better-maintained than the tiny cramped little apartments deeper into the city. Generally. Some of them were vacant due to their normal occupants being killed by some rampaging psychopath, and had fallen into some degree of disrepair. Other mindless though, were picking up the slack and working to minimally maintain them, even if no one lived there.
In other words, they were ready for some new resident to occupy them.
"Come on, Klaire!"
Syl stopped as they arrived at a jolly little street. The houses were pretty enough, and reasonably maintained. Syl still got lost in Animus easily, but it wandered around a lot in its spare time, so it knew how to get around when necessary.
"Here," said Syl, gesturing at the houses, "you can live here. All you have to do is pick one. It doesn't matter which."
It grinned and stretched its arms in front of it.
"Living in a house might be a bit new to you, but I'll help you every step of the way! Trust me, they're really nice when you can get them cleaned, and when you trash out the rotted food and unnessary stuff. And there's a supermarket nearby if you need some good food, so it's all good."
What it didn't mention was that Syl had spent very little time in a house except in Daemon's house, so it didn't have much knowledge about it either. Then again... Kiel could help. Syl considered its sibling to be very reliable when it came to help.

Klaire looked at the imposing houses. She was not used to seeing such buildings. She happily skipped up to one that was especially colorful, painted in vibrant shades of blue and green.
"I like this one!" she giggled childishly. She pushed open the door, walking into the house and looking around. It was homely, maintained well by past residents. A large TV was placed up against one wall, with surround sound. She shuddered.
It's just like the screen they used to show horrible things in the facility... Klaire thought to herself, backing around the corner instead of progressing into the room. She then climbed a flight of stairs, humming to herself.

Syl chuckled and ran after her, as it evaluated her choice in housing. Rather colourful. It liked it.
"Wait up, Klaire!" it yelled as it ran after her.
It followed her up the stairs, still smiling, humming along with her tune. It liked humming.
"There are bedrooms and bathrooms here," said Syl, "they're really nice, usually! These houses usually have at least two of them, so you have a choice of which one you want."

Klaire oohed and aahed at the size of the house, tracing her hand across the wall. She smiled warmly, looking around the upstairs. The walls were painted purple, and white carpeting lined the floor. She bent over, running a hand along the silky smooth carpet with a giggle. She then hurriedly rushed into one of the bedrooms, which had a master bathroom attached, along with a walk-in closet. She flopped down on the bed, which was rather bland. A simple blue quilt covered the blue sheet, and she let out a sigh of relief. It was so much more comfortable than those beds in the facility...

Syl grinned as it followed her around. That grin persisted as it watched Klaire flop down on the bed and let out a sigh of relief. It approached her, still grinning, as it sat down on the bed.
"Like it, Klaire? As I said, these houses are really nice."

"You know, for a minute, I actually doubted you. I'm sorry I did, because you were right. These houses are amazing, huge! Look at all the furniture!" she said enthusiastically. "It's also so colorful! I don't think I've even seen half of these colors before. Do they have a name? They're so beautiful..." she said dreamily.

Syl nodded, smiling. Kiel, help me here.
"Yeah, they do."
In response, Kiel appeared within the room with Syl and Klaire, although Klaire couldn't see it, as Kiel was incorporeal.
"I'm here, Syl," said Kiel, "you need anything named, I'm here!"
Syl ignored Kiel and concentrated on Klaire. It grinned as it lay down on the bed next to her. It liked her, really. She reminded it of its own innocence as well, although Syl had a feeling that its past was anything but pleasant.
"Some of these houses are really amazing!" said Syl, chuckling, "although personally I prefer the roof... provided that the tiles aren't uneven."

"What's a roof?" Klaire asked rather childishly. Having never really been outside, she had no idea what a roof was. She knew what a ceiling was, though. She reached her hand up, extending the bone so that it could reach the ceiling. "Ceiling..." she whispered to herself with a giggle. Her hand then came back to a normal size.

Syl giggled childishly. More and more, it was starting to see pieces of itself in this girl. She didn't even know what a roof was, in a similar fashion that Syl wasn't originally aware of what a 'boyfriend' was.
It smiled and shook its head.
"Yeah, that's the ceiling, Klaire, but the roof is the uppermost of a building, which protects it from rain, snow and stuff like that. It's the dark blue-tiled part on top of the house. I can show you."
Syl went up to the window and pointed at the dark blue tiles that were visible there.
"See those dark blue tiles there? That's the roof. It's my favorite part of the house because you can lay down on it and watch as the clouds and birds pass by, the sun set and the stars as they twinkle in the sky."

"Why would you go up there? You could fall off," Klaire said obliviously. She had followed Syl up to the window, and was looking at the tiles quietly. She then walked over to the drawers in the room, pulling one out and putting her briefcase in the drawer. She took a few of the syringes and put them in her pocket. Her sleeve returned to normal length in a puff of blue smoke, and she decided to walk around the house some more.

Syl shrugged.
"The view's worth it, and you won't fall off if you know what you're doing."
Syl watched as she put the briefcase in a drawer and a few needles in her pockets. I hope that she has a good immune system, thought Syl, because if those needles get dirty or contaminated, she'll get sick.
It watched as her sleeve changed in a puff of blue smoke as well, and then as she left the bedroom. Interesting, thought Syl, how her clothing changes. It's a bit like mine, but more obvious.
"Wait for me!" said Syl, as it ran after her, "where are you going next in the house? This one's pretty big, so there's a lot to explore..."

"I'm going to go everywhere!" she said sing-songily. She was skipping, and did a childish twirl. It was strange seeing a grown woman act like this, especially when they had been scared ----less a few minutes before. She pushed open the door to the master bathroom, looking around quietly. She stared at the mirror, noticing a person in it. She stumbled backwards, her arm turning into a blade once again from the elbow down. She watched as the person did the same, and cautiously approached it, placing her hand on the mirror, watching as the other person did the same as she did.
Why are they copying me?

Syl ran up to Klaire as she stumbled and then put her hand on the mirror. It put a hand on her shoulder, smiling.
"This is a mirror Klaire," said Syl, "the person that you see there is not real; it's your reflection. People mainly use it to see what they look like, but I suppose that there are more practical applications than that... their technology is so confusing."
Syl sat next to her and waved its hand in the mirror, and its reflection did the same thing too.
"See? There's nothing to worry about. It's pretty cool though, isn't it?"

"It feels cold," she observed. She started making silly faces at the mirror, sticking her tongue out and draping her hair over her eyes with a giggle. She then withdrew her hand, looking over the rest of the bathroom quickly before leaving and heading down the staircase. She scooted around the corner, being sure to keep her eyes away from the giant television in the main room. She opened the door to the basement, but not before stopping to look through the glass panels on the door. She instantly put a hand on one.
"It's the same material. Why can't I see myself in these mirrors?" Klaire asked obliviously. "I can't see myself in the ones upstairs either."

Syl followed her around. Kiel did so as well, although only Syl could see it.
"It's the same material. Why can't I see myself in these mirrors? I can't see myself in the ones upstairs either."
It's smile persisted as it put its hand on the glass in the basement door as well. Unfortunately, it didn't really know what this was either, and mentally asked Kiel for help. Kiel, sensing Syl's need, appeared beside Syl and whispered to it what the stained glass was.
"Yeah," said Syl after a moment's pause. "It's also made out of glass, but not all glass is made to be a mirror. This glass here is made for decoration. It's called stained glass because it has colours on it. Pretty, isn't it?"
